Guy Fawkes Night: alarms give protection

While the Halloween ghosts, witches and ghouls may have gone for another year, we are now fast approaching Bonfire or Guy Fawkes night when, unfortunately, other menacing characters can be lurking in the dark.

This is time when as we draw closer to winter, and the clocks have changed, the evenings get dark even earlier. When this is combined with the larger numbers of families going out into the night to firework displays, burglars can easily mingle with people and take advantage of empty homes and steal from them. The noise from the fireworks, and people enjoying them, can also help reduce the chance of thieves being detected.

Research by insurance group Aviva,  published in 2018, found that the number of  burglary claims they received soared by 42% on November 5th as thieves took advantage of empty homes. Even if you are having a bonfire night party at home if you are all in the garden your house could be targeted, Aviva warned.

However, the study also showed that many people are not taking the simple steps they could do to secure their properties. The Aviva research, based on a poll of just over 2000 adults, found that just under 40% of people had not checked their windows were locked and 29% had not checking doors. In addition, 55% don’t leave a light or radio on to make the house look occupied and 62% don’t ensure bikes and valuable items in the garden are locked away.

While taking precautions such as ensuring all valuables are locked away or moved from view or having security lights will help, installing an advanced intruder alarm system can provide greater peace of mind, while you are out enjoying the fireworks.

We offer both Orisec and HKC Security intruder alarm systems, which can often be a deterrent in themselves if the bell boxes are clearly visible. As well as providing an audible alarm these systems come with apps that mean if an alarm is sounded you will get notified on your smart phone. The apps also mean that if you realise while you are out that you have not set the alarm you can still do this remotely.

Our intruder alarm systems meet the necessary standards of compliance and we are SSAIB compliant so you can be sure that any installation will be of a high quality. Before we install an intruder alarm, our surveyors will visit your home to assess and review requirements since each alarm system is unique.

We are well-established intruder alarm suppliers in the Bristol or Bath area and across south-west England with many residential customers. So, if you don’t want to be caught out by the burglars this Guy Fawkes night just get in touch, or get a quick quote first, and then we can explain more about how we can help.
