External detection for added security

Adding external detection to a property can notify of an intruder before they gain access and also prevent the theft of vehicles, deliveries of goods left outside, fuel and tools from work vans.

We can offer the latest detectors that can protect your property’s perimeter.

Easy to use on your mobile device, at home or at work

Our burglar alarm systems are very easy to use and our engineers will provide you with training once they are installed.

You can opt for a traditional manual keypad option where you enter your personal number codes. Alternatively, you can choose a key fob option, which has an added security benefit since any lost key fobs can be deleted from the panel.

Mobile apps can arm and disarm your system but also provide the ability to control third-party devices and check current alarm status from your phone or tablet wherever you are, you just need to have a connection to the internet.

Always Alert 24/7

Using the mobile app self-monitoring will provide you with push alerts but if you want a guaranteed response you should also choose to use an Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC).

Our standards compliant ARC can alert you should they lose connectivity to your alarm system and if required advise you to call an engineer.

Monitoring warns of intruder activity when you are away from your house. Police response is available via a unique reference number (URN). This allows you to take the requisite action and become proactive.

Trusted and certified

Why you can trust us to install your alarms

We are certified by the Security Systems and Alarms Inspection Board (SSAIB) under their Electronic Security Systems Scheme. Their assessment covers the financial stability and operational adequacy of our business giving you confidence in us.

SSAIB certification means we can demonstrate compliance with NPCC policies on police response to security system activations.  This enables us to obtain unique reference numbers (URNs) for our alarm systems and therefore when a confirmed alarm is triggered a police response is requested.

The assessment by the SSAIB to achieve certification ensures that our business processes comply with relevant standards and codes of practice. This assessment includes a review of our site installations. We also have to demonstrate that we have the appropriate knowledge and skill to install and service intruder alarms.

Installing the right Intruder Alarm System for you

Before we install an intruder alarm, our security expert will visit your premises to assess and review your requirements, as each security system is unique. During the site survey we will discuss every aspect of your property, contents and insurance requirements to enable us to provide you with a burglar alarm system that will keep your property safe.

In most cases your insurance is reduced once a standards compliant and certificated alarm system has been fitted.

Burglar alarms are categorised into 4 different grades, based on their levels of performance (such as functionality, reliability and durability) and the risk level of your property or business. We fit grade 2 and and grade 3 level alarms.

  • Grade 2 systems offer a good level of security for most residential properties and and lower risk small commercial properties. This level will protect against burglars who have some knowledge of the alarm system and property. It protects multiple entry points.
  • Grade 3 systems are designed to combat burglars and attackers with advanced knowledge of the alarm system and have tools and equipment (including portal electronic devices). The system is comprehensive and protects all potential entry points of a building. High risk homes and lots of commercial properties fall into this category.

As part of the system we would always recommend that you have a bell box fitted to the outside of your property. This provides a visual deterrent showing that you have protected your home or business premises.

If you would like to secure your property and install an intruder system please contact us on 0117 914 1180.

Maintenance and Support: How we help you

At Security Group we offer a range of competitively priced support and maintenance contracts to support your alarm system.

With our intruder alarm systems, we recommend that they are maintained at least once a year. Failure to maintain your system could invalidate any insurance policy you may have on the property, plus can result in higher costs by having to pay non-contract call out fees. During a routine maintenance visit our engineers will check the system and ensure that it is in full working order, and complies with current legislation.

As well as having the annual maintenance visit our experienced engineers are available to provide remote support from our help desk.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I need a burglar/intruder alarm?

The key benefits of installing an alarm system are that it will protect your property from theft and vandalism; increase the
likelihood of police apprehending criminals; lower your insurance premiums and provide you with peace of mind when you’re away from home or off-site.

How does an alarm system work?

An intruder alarm system consists of a series of electrical components that are connected to a property. Via sensors and contacts, they detect movement or the opening of doors and windows, after which a loud alarm is produced to alert those nearby of the unauthorised entry.

How reliable are your alarm systems?

Our intruder alarm partners are Orisec and HKC. Both of these are solutions that can only be fitted by professional installers which provides you with confidence that they are reliable.

What happens if my system fails – do you provide 24/7 support or monitoring?

We have a range of support packages depending on the systems that we have installed and to suit your needs. If you need remote monitoring for your intruder alarm system this is provided 24/7 through our fully compliant alarm receiving centre (ARC) and if you have a support contract with us our engineers are available out of hours in the event of system failures. Many issues can be fixed remotely but we will attend on site where necessary.

What are intruder alarm grades?

Intruder alarms are categorised into 4 different grades, based on their levels of performance (such as functionality, reliability and durability). Security Group can fit either Grade 2 or Grade 3 intruder alarms which are both fully monitored systems and will protect multiple entry points. However, the grade of alarm you require will depend on your risks associated with your property, for example its size, structure and location as well of the and the value of business assets or personal possessions, such as electrical goods and jewellery.
If your property is considered high risk then we will recommend a grade 3 alarm system because we will have assessed that it will be targeted by burglars who are expected to be conversant with the alarm system and have a comprehensive range of tools and portable electronic equipment.

I have an outdated burglar alarm system, how we will you help me upgrade?

Our security experts will take the time to survey your house or premises to ensure that we can provide a modern alarm system that will meet your needs and the risk level of your property or business. We will show you the benefits of the main systems we install from Orisec or HKC and also discuss your wider security needs where appropriate.

I have a Galaxy burglar alarm system, can you help to maintain it?

Yes we can maintain Galaxy intruder alarms. However, we can also assess your alarm system and if necessary suggest an upgrade and will show you the benefits of Orisec or HKC alarms.

I have a Texecom intruder alarm system, can you help to maintain it?

Yes we can maintain Texecom burglar alarms. However, we can also assess your alarm system and if necessary suggest an upgrade and will show you the benefits of Orisec or HKC alarms.

How quickly can your team respond if there’s a fault or security breach?

If you have remote monitoring for your intruder alarm system our fully compliant alarm receiving centre (ARC) will alert you to a fault or security breach very quickly and there will be a police response if you have requested that is necessary. If you have a support contract with Security Group we will take a call in and out of office hours and in many cases we can fix issues remotely. Sounds Commercial have praised our quick response and advice over the telephone that means problems have been solved relatively quickly.

What is a unique reference number (URN) and how will it help me?

Security Group is registered with a certification body, the SSAIB, which means we are able to obtain a URN from the Police for your premises. We will notify our standards compliant ARC of your URN enabling them to identify your premises if any alarms are triggered. If it is confirmed that the alarm is not false then the ARC can inform the police.

Do you provide 24/7 monitoring and rapid-response support?

The intruder alarm systems can be manged remotely by us and we can provide quick support if the system fails. Additionally, we can provide remote monitoring through our alarm receiving centre if required.

Do you offer service contracts or ongoing support packages?

We know for commercial customers, in particular, the ongoing reliability of their intruder system is paramount and we offer service contracts and ongoing support packages that will suit their ongoing needs. These are available for residential customers too.

If an alarm is triggered, what is the exact process and response time?

If your have remote monitoring, as will likely be required by your insurance company, the ARC will receive an activation signal if your intruder alarm is triggered. This will ensure your designated keyholders, and/or the police if you have requested this, will be alerted within minutes.

Can your systems protect both my business premises and my home?

Yes we will ensure that system updates and system maintenance are managed, which can largely be carried out remotely but we will attend on site when required. Intruder alarm systems require an annual maintenance visit and we will liaise with the property owner who those who manage the property to ensure this is carried out.

Can you monitor your own alarm system?

Yes, you can choose to monitor your own burglar alarm system. A self-monitored system usually refers to a security system that’s set up to send notifications or a phone call via a smartphone whenever a security sensor is tripped. However, you need to remember that you will only receive these notifications when connected to the internet.
If you need a fully-monitored system then you need to opt for remote monitoring by an ARC.

How can you help me to protect my home?

By arranging for us to design and intstall an advanced home alarm system you will be able to better protect your property. The HKC and Orisec apps mean you can have greater control over setting the home alarm system too.

What might cause a false alarm?

There are a number of reasons you might get a false alarm. These include:
Dirty detectors
Poorly maintained or installed detectors
Insects or spiders crawling across detectors
User error
It is always important to keep your detectors clean and well-maintained so any problems with them can be detected. Companies also need to train staff in using the alarm system so they do not trigger false alarms.

What are the differences between a wired and a wireless alarm system?

Wireless alarms use battery-powered sensors that communicate with a control panel using radio signals. The main benefit of this system is that they are quicker to install as we do not need to run wires around your property. You will need batteries for all components, such as the control panel and all detectors but with modern systems these should last at least five years.
Wired systems, on the other hand, need wires running to each of the detectors to work. They will take longer to install as we take our time to ensure the wires are hidden and properly fitted. You will also need a back-up battery in the main control panel and the external siren battery which will require changing approximately every five years.
Depending on your property you may decide on a hybrid intruder alarm system. For a large building we would recommend a wired system but if you additionally want your intruder alarm system to stretch to outbuildings or wider areas on your system we can extend its range by using wireless detectors so you gain the advantages from both type of system.
