Adding on IT devices? Don’t forget power management

Would your school or business suffer if your IT equipment failed due to a power outage? As a security solutions provider whose products rely on properly functioning servers, and other IT devices, Security Group knows just how important power management is for our clients.

You should already have an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) system that is designed to provide seamless transition between mains power failure and a battery backup. However, you need to consider, as you add more IT equipment, whether the UPS you have is still powerful enough and up to the job you now require of it.

Can your current UPS handle a strong power outage?

Crucially you need to assess whether your current UPS could handle a strong power outage and be able to provide that vital protection for all your IT equipment and the back-up via battery power if required.

If your UPS is not sufficiently powerful then it will itself be likely to fail which could lead to your IT equipment shutting down unexpectedly and you suffering from losing important data.

When you do have installations of new systems, such as CCTV or access control, which will link into your IT network we recommend that you get the installer, or an internal team, to carry out a thorough check of your UPS systems.

Security Group can assess your power management needs

Since being bought by Ecl-ips, Security Group has become a supplier of APC UPS systems, in addition to CCTV and electronic access control, and we are able to assess your UPS needs when we are on site installing or updating your security cameras or doors.

For power management and monitoring of your server room we also supply power distribution units (PDUs). APC’s PDUs allow you to remotely power on and off; to remotely reboot equipment and set up power sequencing delays which allow users to define the order in which to power up or down attached equipment. You can also set alarms to warn you of potential circuit overloads before critical IT failures occur.

Managing and monitoring your power and ensuring your UPS systems remain fit for purpose is vital to ensure there is no loss of functionality due to IT downtime. If you need Security Group to assess your power management needs contact us.
