Case Study: Elderly care package gives peace of mind

Customer: The daughter of a lady with dementia

Location: Bristol

Requirement:  A customer of Security Group has become ill with dementia. She needed an improved intruder alarm system and her daughter who lives 100 miles away needed peace of mind that her mother was safe and protected.

Solution: Orisec Intruder Alarm system including the ControlPlus cloud platform and its elderly care feature through its app.

Services: Design and installation of the Orisec intruder alarm system and configuring the ControlPlus software to include the elderly care feature. This has been designed to help elderly, or other vulnerable people, remain in their home and be as independent as possible.

Customer’s View: We did have some teething issues but both Seb and Dave were really helpful, nothing was too much trouble and any issues were handled quickly.

Seb is such nice guy; he was very patient and has a great manner.”

The only issue with the system is that her mother struggles with the back light and size of the key pad which was switched for a slightly different one. However, her mum cannot set the alarm without her glasses. A fob was offered but due to the mother having dementia it was thought it would get lost.

The elderly care package allows us to programme the Orisec ControlPlus system to warn relatives, friends or neighbours if there is no activity within a zone or for any specified length of time. For example, if an elderly parent fails to open a bedroom door in the morning, or enter well-used rooms such as the kitchen by a certain time the designated contacts can be notified.

The care package has been a godsend as I live 100 miles away from my Mum, so having the system in place has really given me peace of mind because I now know when she is up and about as I get a notification on my app. It’s a really helpful tool that I check at least 3 to 4 times a day.”

Once a notification is received the relative or friend can phone the homeowner to find out what has happened and whether they need to call round, or to seek further assistance, if they cannot travel to the house themselves.

The customer said she has the notifications set to three hours, so she can call her mum to check in if there has not been any movement in certain rooms.

“I like that it’s not intrusive as there are no cameras, it’s all purely on her motion so I think it’s really good.”
