The Halo Smart Sensor, which has recently been upgraded to the 3C model, is an advanced vape detector, which can provide a range of alerts to give peace of mind to schools and colleges in south-west England alarmed at the rise of vaping among their students.
When you are buying a product, you always want to be sure it works and is reliable. We, and our parent company Ecl-ips, were introduced to the HALO through our association with North American CCTV manufacturer Avigilon, part of Motorola Solutions. However, we soon identified the huge potential of this smart sensor in the UK and decided to work with IPVideo Corporation, the US developer and manufacturer, directly.
Vape detector is a success in the US market
By 2021, HALO had won over 60 product awards and was in over 1,500 school districts across the US and testimonials from American schools indicated it was helping to combat that country’s “vaping epidemic”.
Interest in the HALO by UK schools has increased sharply in the past two years pushed by the experience they have had of rising numbers of students vaping and local authorities recognising that youth vaping needed to be addressed. Since we began supplying the HALO Smart Sensors to schools, they can see that they work and can help them manage the problem. We will always pre-stage the devices so customers can get monitoring as quickly as possible but we can install them too.
Email notifications to alert you to vaping, THC and more
The HALO Smart Sensor has a range of monitoring capabilities and you will receive email alerts so you can take action as required. Here are the features that have been particularly useful for schools:
- The Dynamic vape detection algorithm which is used by the HALO to learn about its environment and alert when vaping is detected. Therefore, the HALO is the only product that can alert and differentiate between vaping and intentionally masking vaping, such as by using aerosols to cover up vaping or the smell given off by some vapes.
- The HALO is also the only vape detector on the market that is able to trace the THC oil given off by vapes, along with the other traditional smoking methods. THC or tetrahydrocannabinol is found in cannabis and is an illegal substance in the UK.
- This is a discreet device but it is likely if students are using toilets regularly to vape in and it has been installed that they will spot this. This means they may try and interfere with the device to stop it working even if there are no visible alarms. However, the HALO is tougher than it first appears and has a IK 10 rating making it vandal resistant. Additionally, the HALO will detect if it is being interfered with and a notification will be sent seconds after the detection.
- The smart sensor also has the ability to detect loud noises, which could also suggest aggression between students. Again, if this is picked up the school will get notifications quickly so any disturbances can be dealt with before they get out of hand. This can also help to prevent or manage vandalism within toilet blocks.
