Maintaining the reliability of your HALO Smart Sensor

HALO Smart Sensors have proven to be highly accurate monitoring devices, and have been particularly popular for their successful vape detection, but to ensure reliability they do need to be kept clean.

These are IoT devices that detect environmental changes and have shown to be incredibly accurate. The smart sensors have allowed schools to tackle vaping among pupils, especially when this is combined with their behaviour policies and consistent staff action.

The HALO Smart Sensors recalibrate themselves on a regular basis to remain accurate. The HALO Smart Sensor 2Cs also have a two-year warranty while the improved HALO Smart Sensor 3C, which is now being supplied, has a warranty of up to 5 years.

However, to ensure the continuing reliability they do need some regular cleaning. If you do not keep the device clean users may see a growing number of false alerts due to contamination which will waste time and become frustrating. Therefore, cleaning of the HALO Smart Sensors is recommended every 90 days.

While cleaning is taking place you will need to warn staff that alarms will be activated or you can disable the device temporarily via the HALO GUI interface or HALO Device Manager. All cleaning of a HALO Smart Sensor 2C needs to be carried out using a 75% Saturation Alcohol Wipe. You need to remove the first cover and then wipe it on both sides and wipe the HALO 2C itself avoiding the blue exposed sensor board.

The HALO 3C should not be opened. Instead, it is recommended you use an ESD Safe (that will reduce the discharge of static electricity) vacuum to pull dust from within. The outside can be wiped with a damp cloth.
